Each member of the committee has a role (described below), and benefit from a direct ability to drive the direction and future of SOBHC. Committee members are accountable to the club, and can be replaced by a majority vote at an EGM. Committee members are elected at the AGM for a single year.
Here is a brief description of the roles and associated responsibilities
- Chairman - leads the club. Responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the club, and to support other committee members. They are expected to call and chair committee meetings, and they are elected upon their policies and ideals. The Chairman sets the club agenda.
- Treasurer - They are tasked to manage the club accounts, collect subscriptions and fees from team captains, and to settle any outstanding bills.
- Club Secretary - manages the operational aspects of the club, and traditional communciation methods such as post. They also maintain records of players for emergency and contact purposes.
- Fixtures Secretary - liaises with the league organisations to arrange all fixtures. Books pitches and teas for each game. Is also responsible for pre and post league friendlies.
- Communications Secretary - manages advertising & new media. They are responsible for the upkeep and development of the club website.
- Social Secretary - Arranging the Christmas and End of Season dinners, amongst other arranged socials, falls to the social secretary. The social secretary can form a sub committee to run larger events. The Social Sec also acts as Tour Secretary - The Tour secretary undertakes the work of arranging the annual club easter tour.
- 1st XI Captain - The sporting lead of the club. The 1st XI captain has a role to not only lead, organise, & develop the 1st XI team. They captain also has a role to lead the development of hockey in the whole club. This often requires organising and leading training sessions. Captains can delegate elements of their role to deputies in their teams, but these deputies do not have voting rights at club committee meetings. All captains are responsible for collecting match fees on behalf of the treasurer.
- 2nd XI Captain - Leads, organises, and develops the 2nd XI team. Supports the 1st XI captain with club wide development activities. Collects match fees from team members on behalf of the treasurer.
